With a challenging schedule requirement, the Union Pacific Railroad hired Hawkins to replace two separate bridges within 30 days. The work was completed during a “blitz” in which UPRR replaced miles of track. Due to the ongoing train traffic, Hawkins was only allowed five-hour work windows to install all steel H-piling, and two 20-hour time frames to replace the bridges. Hawkins’ bridge replacement work was coordinated with the UPRR track replacement gang of 100 laborers and multiple track replacement machines, requiring an extremely intricate schedule. Construction equipment included a 160-ton crane, excavators, skid loader, and pile hammer.
