Hawkins constructed this office building for DLR Group, an innovative commercial design firm in Omaha Nebraska. The project was completed by two contracts: one for the building core and shell package, and a second for the tenant fit-out.
DLR Group occupies the upper levels of this three-story structure and tenants occupy the 1st level. DLR’s design incorporated an industrial high-tech concept, which is visible throughout the building interior with details such as exposed steel lintels, reclaimed wood, and recycled materials
The building’s deep foundations were constructed with geo-piers. Structural steel was used for the remainder of the building, along with metal decking and poured concrete topping. This unique building included several types of construction: the north facade is of curtain wall construction, the south facade is a load-bearing masonry wall system with brick veneer with sun shading devices; the east side consists of a CMU bearing masonry with brick veneer; and the west facade includes open air balconies on the 2nd and 3rd levels.
