Boys Town National Research Hospital Residential Treatment Center

The Boys Town Residential Treatment Center is a 43,000 SF, 46-bed facility that is a secure, therapeutic environment for children ages 5 to 18 who have severe behavioral and mental health problems.

Hawkins worked with Boys Town and the designer to place a major emphasis on patient safety throughout the building. The facility features home-like living quarters, family-style dining, indoor and outdoor recreation areas, safe and secure housing in separate children’s and adolescent’s units, state-of-the-art classrooms, and private areas for family visitations.

This project began with significant site infrastructure improvements including 78,000 CY of excavation, 2,500 LF of water mains, 1,500 LF of storm sewers and 19,000 SY of concrete paving. Hawkins performed the work in multiple phases to ensure there was close coordination with the existing facilities and to maintain emergency access at all times. This phasing plan also allowed Hawkins to fast-track the construction so site preparations, rebar fabrication, and steel mill orders were all in progress before the final construction documents were issued.

“Hawkins Construction Company has brought ideas to the District for both cost savings as well as scheduling to keep projects both on time and on budget. To help do this they make time early in the project for both collaborative value engineering as well as learning the intricacies of our projects to avoid potential schedule problems. This understanding of the project helps them with the management of subcontractors and makes for a more organized construction process.”
