Offutt Air Force Base Runway Repair

Hawkins Construction completed this major airfield repair project at Offutt Air Force Base in just 230 days, shaving two months off the anticipated schedule. Because the project required the only runway on the base to be closed during the renovation, Hawkins also made temporary pavement repairs at the Lincoln Municipal Airport in Lincoln, Nebraska and remodeled an existing hangar so it could serve as temporary office space.

To repair the deteriorating runway, Hawkins first removed the concrete and asphalt runway pavements, and then slip-form paved 129,000 square yards of Portland cement concrete with thicknesses varying from 5 to 24 inches. All personnel were screened and badged to comply with stringent security requirements at the base.
